My LG G-Pad 7.0" failed internally at the Chicago Auto Show. Exactly when I needed the tablet to help with my show coverage. So, a couple people at US Cellular customer service got an earful. However, they went above and beyond to make things right.

The tablet was showing "Service Disabled" on the Android top bar menu or whatever it's called - the thing you swipe down from the top of the screen. It refused to connect to anything. Rebooting it didn't fix it. I called US Cellular, went through some crap with the Level 1 tech/customer service person, which didn't help. He told me to do a factory reset on it, which didn't help. He also said that normally him instructing me on how to do a factory reset (which is right in the damn settings menus clear as day) would cost $35, but since the tablet was two weeks old it would be waived. I sarcastically thanked him for his generosity, and suggested throwing the tablet off the 4th floor of the McCormick Place to see if I could hit the fountains in the lobby. He quickly put me through to a Level II tech (i.e. someone who knows their shit and is empowered to make things right).

The Level II tech had me go through a couple other steps, and then came to the conclusion that it had an internal hardware failure. He said he could get a replacement sent out overnight - I didn't have it sent to Chicago because they couldn't exactly address it to my "room". "Tohru Rokuno, Red Dodge Truck on Level 4N of Lot A, McCormick Place Parking Garage, Chicago, IL" isn't exactly a legal mailing address within the US Postal Service, I think.

When I finally arrived home (about 40 minutes ago), on my front porch was a box from US Cellular with a NEW (not a refurbished) LG G-Pad 7.0", along with a return label, activation instructions, and a 10% off coupon for accessories. I'll find out if it works tomorrow, when I activate it. I'm too tired tonight.

Wow, $35 for a service call? I've been a customer of many cell phone companies (ATT, Verizon, indirectly Sprint, TMobile and many of their predecessors) and have never been told there can be a charge for technical help.
